Shopping online is like a buying a car. Wait, no it's not.
It's actually that feeling of walking into Sephora and you say "I'm just going to browse," but subconsciously know you'll be emptying your wallet & buying everything.
You don't shop with the first person who greets you. You shop with the Glamazon who's winged liner is most on fleek, who compliments your highlight and somehow opens you up to a whole new conversation around the details of your weekend that you'd never thought you'd get into.
And then what happens? You came in for one eyeliner and you walk out with a new foundation, an eye shadow palette and the entire range of Kat Von D lipsticks.
Why does this happen? Because you're always more open to buying from someone you trust & feel connected to.
90% of my wardrobe I've bought online with three brands I feel most connected – LuLu's, Nasty Gal and Sabo Skirt.
They are my holy grail, go-to sites for online shopping and here's why.
What I Love about LuLu's
LuLu's listens to you, the customer. They listen to what you want, what you've bought and what you're wearing.
See something you want but can't find in your size? Ask, believe, receive. It's as easy as hitting 'Notify Me.' In my experience, 9 out of 10 times the items are back within weeks.
The best part about LuLu's is the #LoveLuLus hashtag on Instagram. Not only can you click to see some fabulous beauties in LuLu's clothing, but you can also tag your photos for a chance to win a shopping spree.
I still can't believe I was chosen in March as one of their weekly winners with this photo. If you've ever bought anything from LuLu's, snap a photo and tag it. I can personally say it's 110% worth it.
Tip #1 for Shopping Online
Check tagged photos on social media, Instagram for example. Anytime I shop online I think, "Yes, this looks great on the model, but I wonder how it would look on me?" One easy way to do that is to find tagged photos on social media.
Under tagged photos you can find the every day fashionista and how she styles & fits into the clothing. If you're still curious, just ask her. "How does the sizing run?" "How long did it take you to get your items?"
I don't mind sharing my shopping experience with someone's who searched & stumbled across my page. I'm sure she won't either.
What I love about NastyGal
When I wear Nasty Gal, I am fierce, fiery & ready to conquer the world. Or at least downtown Austin.
Nasty Gal is for the bold and the daring. It's for the free thinker and the girl who's fashion forward. Each piece is well-made, unique and often very daring.
After reading #GirlBoss, a book by former CEO, Sophia Amoruso, I fell even more in love with Nasty Gal and all of the things my clothing represent. If you've read the book, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you haven't, do yourself a favor and read it now.
One of my favorite quotes from #GirlBoss that speaks to my soul & fashion attitude -
“If I, and this book, have anything to prove, it’s that when you believe in yourself, other people will believe in you, too.”
No matter what I wear from Nasty Gal, I rock it. And just like Sophia said, I believe I wear it well and everyone else does too.
Tip #2 for Shopping Online
Read & write reviews. Read, read, read the reviews that other customers write about your potential purchases. Most often it will give you a good sense of if the items are true to size, color, quality and overall satisfaction.
"Do unto others as you'd want to be done to you." It's also just as important to write a review after you've worn your purchases. Your comments will be greatly appreciated and you will be rewarded with positive energy & good juju from the Shopping Gods above. Just trust me. I believe my "luck" with LuLu's came from spreading those good deeds.
Tip #3 for Shopping Online
Know your measurements. Knowing your own measurements helps determine what size to buy online based on the measurements provided by the retailer.
For most sites you will need to know your height, weight, bust and hips to compare how you will fit compared to the model.
I even know the circumference of my head after buying a headpiece that was a bit too small (I ended up making it work by adding extra chain links).
I found a great guide here that best explains how to take your own measurements.
Whipping out your tape measure at home is easier and much less stressful than trying on numerous items at the store.
Stop trying on & save your time for more shopping.
What I Love about Sabo Skirt
I've never found anything on Sabo Skirt that I wasn't 100% in love with. Just like Nasty Gal, each piece is beautifully made and one-of-a-kind.
Shopping on Sabo Skirt reminds me of Beyonce's "Single Ladies." If you like it, put a ring on it. Or at least throw it in your cart and hit "Purchase."
Advice for Shopping on SaboSkirt.com
Buy quickly. Recently I've noticed most items sell out quickly (within 1-2 weeks, if not sooner) and are not restocked.
Luckily, if you miss out on buying one thing you've been eyeing, the chances you'll find something equally as beautiful to purchase instead when Sabo Skirt come out with new items is just as high.
If you've taken and compared your measurements but are still unsure on which size to purchase - go one size up for Sabo Skirt items & one size down for Sabo Luxe items.
Most of my items from Sabo Skirt fit a little snug and my Sabo Luxe items fit just the opposite.
Because Sabo Skirt ships internationally from Australia, make sure you save on shipping costs & time by purchasing $150 AUD or $110 USD worth of items to receive free shipping to the US.
Everything I've ever ordered from Sabo Skirt I have been anxiously awaiting and would have preferred to skip the time on delivery. In past, it has taken anywhere from 2-3 weeks to receive my items with standard shipping.
If you can splurge a bit more on shipping after you've done you're shopping, upgrade to DHL Express Shipping ($20 AUD or $14 USD) to receive your items in 3-5 business days.
To my surprise, I received my last purchase just 4 days after ordering.
Remember with Sabo Skirt, if you fall in love, don't wait. Losing and not looking good is a risk you don't want to take.
Have you shopped on Sabo Skirt, Nasty Gal or LuLu's? Where are your favorite places to shop online?
Shopping online can be scary, but I hope I've introduced you to ways to reduce the risk and find exactly what you want.
